"Kinetic Schemes in Fluid Dynamics"

Abstract:

Euler and (incompressible) Navier Stokes are asymptotic limits of the Boltzmann Equation. 25 years ago, Shmuel Kaniel tried to get an existence theorem for Euler in that way. Others, like Deshpande, Perthame and Michael Junk used the idea to get efficient numerical schemes, so called kinetic schemes or, even more famous, Lattice Boltzmann schemes. They became quite popular in practise, using key words like "digitalized physics".

Light refreshments will be served outside the Lecture Hall at 3:30.
